Sound healing therapy uses aspects of music to improve physical and emotional health and well-being.
Singing Bowls are native to India, Tibet & Himalayan region. According to Tibetan oral traditions, the existence of Singing Bowls dates back to 560-480 B.C.; the tradition was brought back from INDIA to TIBET, along with the teaching of Buddha by some great “Tantric” masters in the Tibetan region. Singing Bowls have been in use in Great Vedic Civilization, Buddhist Meditation & Spiritual philosophy, Himalayas culture for centuries. Available only to select monks in secluded monasteries of Himalayan region, they have carried the mystique of nirvana (Divine enlightenment) in their sacred vibrations.
Now, in Tibet they were not very well known and were kept & used secretly by the monks & lamas.
Long ago the Ayurvedic sage, Charuk, stated that vibration and massage could come together to affect the treatment of many illnesses. He called this synergy “samvahan”, a Sanskrit word describing what the vibrations of the bowls can do. The Samvahan means “re-awakening of tissue.” And indeed, that is what the eerily beautiful tones and overtones of the bowls do: they bring new life to stagnated parts, and they reawaken the healing powers within the body.
Healing with sound is believed to date back to ancient Greece, when music was used in an attempt to cure mental disorders. Throughout history, music has been used to boost morale in military troops, help people work faster and more productively, and even ward off evil spirits by chanting.
Singing Bowls, in the modern world, are becoming increasingly well-known, worldwide, in the field of healing & spiritualism with its transformational energies. Created through an exacting & delicate combination of hand – hammered technique & from sacred metals (primarily Copper & Tin) and certain other metals in little proportion to enhance the vibration qualities that may include Mercury, Iron, Nickel, Cadmium, Silver, Zinc etc.) which lend their unique frequency to the vibration of the bowls.
The harmonic sounds are excellent for reducing stress, deep relaxation, Meditation, Chakra Balancing & overall Holistic Healing. These harmonic overtones have the direct effect on the Chakras. That awaken a beautiful & powerful mystery. They produce the sacred sound of “AUM”. Their rich sonic vibrations alter space, mind & time.
Our nervous system is sensitive to all sounds. Loud and dissonant sounds can hurt or even kill us, while the beautiful, rhythmic sounds of the singing bowls have a profoundly healing effect on the nervous system, which is in continuous communication with every cell in the body. The combination between the sound of the bowl perceived through the ear, and the vibrations of the bowl through the flesh of the body, has a healing effect on body, mind, and soul. The external vibrations of the tapped bowl cause the cells to resonate. From here the sound waves spread everywhere since the body consists of more than 70% water, and water is a great conductor of sound and vibration. The sound waves (like the waves from a stone thrown into a pond) spread in concentric rings into larger and larger circles through the blood, flesh, organs, and bones, relaxing them and at the same time harmonizing and energizing them.
In this way, the more than 100 trillion cells, the building blocks of the human body, are receiving a gentle cleansing massage. Think of it as being similar to what happens when you put jewelry or dentures into a supersonic bath. In a short while, all the dirt comes loose. The sound vibrations of Shangri-La International’s singing bowls, designed for healing, release energy blockages from body, mind, and spirit.
These special vibrations are soothing enough to calm the nerves, yet penetrating enough to reach the marrow of the bones! However, the origin & original function of these metal bowls with their fascinating & ethereal sound and their undeniable influence on the mind, body & soul are still surrounded by an aura of mystery. An instrument with a balanced & harmonious effect on our whole human existence, Singing Bowls could have a great influence- now & in the future- on our capacity for expanding consciousness, transformation & healing.
Music therapy can reduce stress and promote relaxation. It’s been shown to be more effective than prescription drugs in reducing anxiety levels before surgery. A case study published in 2017 found that a 30-minute music therapy session combined with traditional care after spinal surgery reduced pain. Lots of H.O has linked music to a number of health benefits, from boosting immune function and lowering stress levels to improving the health of premature babies.
